What CFS software has to keep track of

A container freight station sits between the port and the customer. Containers arrive from the port or from factories, cargo is stuffed or destuffed, customs examines what it selects, and goods leave for delivery or loading. Every step creates a status, a document and a charge, and CFS software exists to keep all three in line.

Where is the container now?

Customers, transporters and the customs broker all ask the same question. Answering it from a yard register and phone calls takes time away from the actual work.

Documents per BL and per container

Bills of lading, invoices, packing lists and delivery orders belong to specific containers. Misfiling one holds up clearance.

Import and export move differently

Imports run from arrival to destuffing, examination and delivery. Exports run from stuffing, often at the factory, to movement to the port. One system has to handle both.

Delivery orders on time

Cargo cannot leave without the delivery order. Chasing DOs by email adds avoidable delay to release.

Charges pile up per container

Handling, storage, examination and transport charges attach to each container. Any not captured at the time are hard to bill later.

Compliance on each movement

GST on services and the e-Way Bill position of each leg need to be right. For example, CGST Rule 138(14) exempts some port to CFS movements from e-Way Bills.

What it does

CFS and container software features in Logiintra

CFS operations

Run container freight station work in the same system as the jobs it serves, instead of a separate yard register.

Container tracking

BL-level tracking with port milestone updates and automated alerts, across multiple shipping lines.

Import and export jobs

Each container job carries its parties, documents, status and charges from start to close.

Factory stuffing exports

Handle factory-stuffed exports as one job covering forwarding, clearing and transportation scopes, with a document checklist.

Delivery order management

Automated DO management tied to the container and BL, so the release status is visible to everyone working the job.

Billing and compliance

GST invoicing, TDS/TCS handling and ICD/CFS compliance built into the workflow, with charges raised from the container job.

AI document reading takes in bills of lading, invoices and delivery orders at about 95% accuracy, and the customer portal lets importers and exporters see their own containers and documents.

How it flows

An import container in Logiintra

1

Open the job from the BL

The bill of lading is read by the AI document reader and the import job is created with container numbers and parties.

2

Track to the CFS

Port milestones update the container status, and alerts tell the team when action is due.

3

Clear, release and deliver

Documents and the delivery order are managed on the job while the customs broker completes clearance.

4

Bill every charge

Handling, storage and transport charges recorded on the job become GST invoices, with receivables tracked.

Questions

Good to know

What is CFS software?
CFS software manages the work of a container freight station and the container jobs around it: containers arriving and leaving, import and export jobs, stuffing and destuffing, documents, delivery orders, storage and billing. It gives the CFS, the forwarder and the customer the same view of each container.
What does a container freight station do?
A CFS is a customs area outside the port where containerised import and export cargo is handled: containers are stuffed or destuffed, cargo is examined by customs where required, and goods are cleared and delivered or sent to the port for loading.
Does Logiintra track containers?
Yes. Container tracking in Logiintra works at BL level with port milestone updates and automated alerts, so the team and the customer can see where each container is.
Can it handle factory stuffing export jobs?
Yes. Export jobs with factory stuffing are handled as one workflow that can include forwarding, clearing and transportation scopes, with a document checklist for each job.
Is an e-Way Bill needed to move import cargo from the port to a CFS?
Under CGST Rule 138(14), no e-Way Bill is required for goods moving from a customs port, airport, air cargo complex or land customs station to an ICD or CFS for customs clearance, or for goods moving under customs bond or customs seal. Check the current rule text before relying on it for a specific movement.
Does Logiintra file bills of entry or shipping bills on ICEGATE?
Logiintra manages the container job, its documents, checklists, status and billing. Customs filing on ICEGATE is done by the importer, exporter or customs broker, and our guides explain those steps.
