Stevedoring software for bulk cargo and port operations

Logiintra's bulk segment gives stevedores, bulk cargo handlers and port operators one system for vessel scheduling and nomination, laycan, draft surveys, quantity tracking, demurrage, barges and multi-party billing. Built by Innovative (ISD) in Gandhidham, close to Deendayal Port (Kandla) and Mundra.

Why bulk cargo needs its own stevedoring software

Bulk cargo such as coal, salt, fertiliser, grain or timber is not counted in containers or packages. It is measured by surveys, moved by grabs, conveyors, trucks and sometimes barges, and paid for against time written into a charter. A general logistics system struggles with all of that, which is why stevedores and bulk handlers look for stevedoring software built around the vessel call.

The vessel call is the job

Everything hangs off a vessel: nomination, arrival, berthing, loading or discharge, completion and sailing. Each event affects cost and time.

Quantity is a calculation

Draft surveys, shore figures and truck or barge counts rarely match exactly. The team needs all of them on one record to settle quantities.

Time is money under the charter

Laycan, laytime and demurrage depend on exact timings. A time sheet kept by hand is the usual source of demurrage disputes.

Many parties per vessel

Importer, exporter, charterer, agent, surveyor and transporter may all be billed or paying on the same vessel.

Cargo moves in several legs

Ship to barge, barge to jetty, jetty to plot, plot to truck. Losing track of one leg means losing track of cargo.

Billing waits for final figures

If the final quantities and times sit in email, invoices to every party are delayed by days or weeks.

What it does

Stevedoring and bulk cargo software features in Logiintra

Vessel scheduling and nomination

Plan vessel calls and record nominations so the whole team works from one schedule.

Laycan management

Keep the laycan for each vessel on its record, with the dates that decide when laytime counts.

Draft survey and quantity tracking

Record draft survey results and track cargo quantities through the operation on the same vessel job.

Demurrage calculation

Calculate demurrage from the recorded vessel events instead of rebuilding the time sheet in a spreadsheet.

Stevedoring, cargo movement and barges

Manage stevedoring operations, cargo movement between legs and barge tracking in one place.

Multi-party billing

Bill each party on the vessel with GST invoicing and TDS/TCS handling built in, from the same final figures.

Owners and managers get real-time dashboards and P&L across segments, and Logiintra's anomaly detection flags unusual or duplicate charges before invoices go out.

How it flows

A bulk vessel call in Logiintra

1

Nominate and schedule

The vessel is nominated and scheduled, with laycan and the parties involved recorded on the job.

2

Work the vessel

Stevedoring, cargo movement and barge legs are recorded as the operation runs, with quantities tracked.

3

Settle figures and time

Draft survey results and vessel events give final quantities and the demurrage calculation.

4

Bill every party

Invoices go to each party with GST from the settled figures, and the job appears in revenue reports.

Questions

Good to know

What is stevedoring software?
Stevedoring software manages the loading and discharge of cargo at a port: vessel schedules, cargo quantities, labour and equipment work, time counted against the charter, and billing to the parties involved. For bulk cargo it also needs draft survey figures and demurrage calculations.
What is laycan?
Laycan, short for laydays and cancelling, is the window of dates agreed in a charter within which the vessel must arrive and be ready to load. If the vessel arrives after the cancelling date, the charterer may cancel. Tracking laycan matters because it decides when laytime can start.
How is demurrage calculated?
Demurrage is the agreed amount paid to the shipowner for time used beyond the allowed laytime. The calculation depends on the charter terms: laytime allowed, when it starts, what time is excluded, and the demurrage rate. Logiintra includes demurrage calculation so these figures come from recorded vessel events rather than a separate spreadsheet.
What is a draft survey?
A draft survey works out the weight of cargo loaded or discharged by reading a vessel's draft marks before and after the operation and adjusting for ballast, fuel, fresh water and water density. It is commonly used for bulk cargo where there is no other practical way to weigh the whole shipment.
Can Logiintra track barges?
Yes. Barge tracking is part of the bulk segment, along with vessel scheduling, cargo movement management and quantity tracking.
Is it only for Kandla and Mundra?
No. Logiintra is cloud based and used across India, but ISD is based in Gandhidham, so our team knows the bulk trade at Deendayal Port (Kandla) and Mundra first hand.
